BAND

PREREQUISITES: MASTERY OF BASIC NOTE READING AND BAND INSTRUMENT PERFORMANCE SKILLS
The Bonduel High School Band is a musical organization with many different forms and functions. It is a marching band, concert band, pep band, jazz band, and sometimes the individual student-musician is a soloist. The main goal of the band program is to help students to learn to appreciate, understand, and perform music. This is mainly accomplished through an active performance schedule including many performances yearly. Band members are especially encouraged to develop their own musical talents and interests
CONCERT CHOIR
GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12
ELECTIVE, FULL YEAR, 1 CREDIT
PREREQUISITE: VOCAL AUDITION AND/OR INSTRUCTOR’S APPROVAL
Students joining this choral ensemble are highly encouraged to have one or more years of choral experience; however, it is not mandatory, with instructor’s approval. Concert Choir is open to anyone wishing to gain a creative approach in learning choral music and understanding music as a fine art.
Concert Choir will study standard classic literature, as well as, music from other cultures and genres. Students in Concert Choir also have the opportunity to audition for the Bonduel High School Show Choir, or to do an Independent Study in the area of Music Appreciation. Students must be a member of the Concert Choir in order to audition for the Show Choir. Members of the Concert Choir will perform in several concerts throughout the year, as well as, the Conference Large Group Festival.
ADVANCED CHORAL STUDIES
GRADES: 10, 11, 12
ELECTIVE, FULL YEAR, 1 CREDIT
PREREQUISITE: ENROLLED IN CONCERT CHOIR, INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL AND VOCAL AUDITION
Chamber Studies/Advanced Choral Studies is a select group of students who possess the desire to both further their study in music, and perform Class A vocal literature. Students will expand their musical knowledge through many avenues such as vocal technique, music theory, music history, and the study of various styles of music. Enrollment in this class will be concurrent with enrollment in Concert Choir.
MUSIC APPRECIATION
GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12
ELECTIVE, SEMESTER, 1/2 CREDIT
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This is a non-performing class. Emphasis is placed on the integration of music, history, and the other arts through the study of the History of Musical Theatre. This course exposes students to the evolution of the Broadway Musical from Minstrel Shows to Vaudeville to the present Pulitzer and Tony Award Winning Musicals. Students will be able to identify the correlation of this evolution to History, Current Events, and Social Issues.
